Casey is a sweet Long Haired Dachshund with a few years under his furry belt, 10 to be exact. His color is officially “Wild Boar” according to his AKC papers. To me, he looks like a strawberry blonde. He has gorgeous soft brown eyes. Casey’s ears are floppy and his fur is soft. He made the trip from PA to Buffalo when his elderly owner felt she could no longer care for him. He is transitioning well here in his foster home. He hangs around with other dogs, large and small and 3 cats. Nothing rattles Mr. Cool. Even when one of the cats wanted to check him out as he laid on my lap, he didn’t even lift his head as he was given the sniff over.

It is obvious that Casey, nicknamed Casey 01 because of his birthdate of 01/01/01, has led the life of a pampered and well loved family member. His former owner describes him as an indoor dog. He is 100% house broken and goes out on a leash to do his business. When he needs to go, he will stare at you. He also stares at you when he wants to play. He has a crate to use with open door so he can come and go. I have not needed to crate him.

Speaking of play, he came with all of his favorite toys. He is obviously not a chewer because all of his squeak toys still squeak! He loves to play catch with his toys and brings them back promptly for another round.

I would describe Casey as a mellow fellow. He has yet to bark or react to his rowdy housemates here. It is early on, however. His owner described him as one who does his share of barking. He did make a begging sound when he wanted to sleep in the human bed instead of doggy bed. I was willing to sacrifice a little space in the bed in exchange for a warm snuggler who rarely moves or complains. He and one of my dogs who also prefers the same sleeping arrangements, shared the space nicely.

Health wise, he is a fit and seemingly healthy 10 year old. He is neutered and up to date on everything as of May 2011. He weighs 21 pounds. He takes an anti-anxiety pill for his fear of thunder, wind and FLIES!
