Dusty – 00237 adopted November 2005 – went to the Rainbow Bridge on August 26, 2012

His name was Dusty, but we called him Joey. We picked him up in Buffalo in November of 2005, so small and so scared. He didn’t know his name, how to climb stairs, how to walk with a leash, was not potty trained and had no teeth. He had some problems when we got him, worms; he lost his coat the first month. We had him bathed and groomed that first week and he saw the Vet, who just fell in love with him. We started the hard work of training this little guy, and it was work, but he learned fast and he became a momma’s boy. He went from sleeping on cement to a Tempur-pedic mattress, he slept in the same spot for 6 ½ years. He would get up every morning at 5:30AM and pace the bedroom waiting for my feet to hit the floor and as soon as they did the barking would start, he wanted his breakfast. This was his ritual everyday for 6 ½ years. He had no teeth but could eat anything, he loved his treats. He accepted any dog we brought into the house, and we had 5 at the end. On August 21st he stopped eating, so I took him to the Vet, he said it could be cancer. Through the week he seemed a little better, on Saturday he was worse, so I took him again he now had Pneumonia. By the end of the day on Saturday he could hold nothing down and could not walk. On Sunday I took him to be euthanized, it was sad and we miss him terribly. He was a good little guy.

----------
Dusty is a very gorgeous blue merle sheltie. He has spent the majority of his life as breeding stock and has now been relinquished to us by a retired breeder. He is about the 4th or 5th sheltie to be turned over by this breeder and is also one of the last. As with most dogs that were brought up as breeding stock, Dusty will need to be given lots of attention and will need to be given proper time to adjust to his new surroundings and home styled environment. We have had much luck with the other shelties that came in from this retired breeder, but have placed each of them in homes with patient new owners... the dogs have all turned out to be well behaved and well adjusted! If you think you have what it takes to be mama or papa to our boy Dusty, please apply now!
