July 31, 2006 - Sadly, we say our goodbyes to sweet Sofia whose strength of spirit and joy for life will be deeply missed by her family. Sofia was blessed to have her last months so filled with love and caring, and we offer our deepest sympathies and thanks to Suzette and her family for all that they have done for all of the dogs, but mostly for Sofia. It takes a special family to take in one that you know from the start will not be able to stay for long, and give them love and care and a very large chunk of your heart to take with them on their next journey.

This lovely girl was rescued from a harrowing ordeal. She was trapped outside for days on a ledge in a ravine with no food or water and no way out. Rescuers were finally able to reach her and bring her out and take her to a shelter. Once in the shelter, no one came to claim her and she was turned over to us. She sure was a grateful, happy girl, but her ordeal wasn't quite over yet. Once she was vetted, it was discovered that Sofia has five mast cell tumors that are malignant. She is being treated and the tumors will be removed with a complete recovery anticipated. She may be prone to getting more of these type of tumors in the future, but as long as they are removed, they won't pose any problems to her. It is also possible that she will not get them again.

Outside of the mast cell tumors, Sofia is a very healthy, happy, active and lovely girl. She loves everyone, including children of all ages, gets along well with other dogs, knows basic obedience and is perfectly housetrained. She is a bouncy, playful girl in the prime of her life and is waiting to spend the rest of it in her forever home. This new home must be canine only... NO feline members please, as Sofia thinks they were born to be chased!
