We are often asked why we do what it is we do and we thought that we would share with everyone one of the biggest reasons... the life of the shelter dog. The Spot Society in Atlanta, GA has put together a very touching tribute to Albert, just one of the millions of shelter dogs in America that suffer the same fate.
Click here to experience "The Fate of a Dog...".
Also... please read this short, but powerful story about another shelter dog... "The White Card Dog"

Sadly Tiny was found left alone with Smokie, however she was not crated. Her owner passed away and a family member called BP&SBR to help Tiny and Smokie.
Tiny is a very sweet girl however when found she was barking and would stomp her feet and back up. She had no idea who these strange people where coming into her home without her mom being there. She is now very sweet but still gets a bit startled by strangers. She does NOT bite only barks for a bit until she knows who they are. She loves to snuggle and is very well behaved in the home! Tiny would be a great companion for an older person and calm environment. She does well with children however would do best with grand kids, nieces, nephews ect. Children in and out and new friends would cause her to stress. She is very loving! She also is fine with other dogs however does not like them going up to her. She would do best with no other dogs or an older dog not a young playful dog. She also is a tad over weight and can use to loose a few lbs, She seems to have been use to being fed table food. She actually gets excited and begs for it. A habit that needs to be broke! Otherwise she is a very easy sweet girl

Sadly Smokie was found left alone in a crate filled with Urine!!! His owner passed away and a family member called BP&SBR to help the poor guy!
Poor Smokie had a few minor issues however he also had a really bad Urinary tract infection and his owner found it easier to keep him crated so he would NOT pee all over the home. He has been living in his own urine for a very very long time!!! He is now all cleaned up and on medication to take care of the UTI and the pain he has been in! He is now healthy and a very sweet loving pug!! Smokie has a elongated soft palate, It causes issues with his breathing however he is older and surgery is not recommended! Smokie needs a calm cool environment and his breathing is soft and quite!! You would almost not know he has an issue!! He may be given Ace a calming medication or steroids for inflammation which would only be on an as needed basis, As long has he is stress free and does not get overly excited he is fine and would not need any medication!
Smokie will be placed with older children or no children so he can stay calm and not get overly excited or stressed! HE is a very sweet little pug.

This lovely young lady is London. She was surrendered because her family's life got too busy and overwhelming. They wanted to make sure that she got the wonderful, pampered life that she so deserves.
London is 2 1/2 years old and is working on her housetraining. She likes other dogs, but much prefers the company of her people. She loves to take walks and would really enjoy having a nice, fenced yard of her own where she can run and play with you. We have found her house training to be much more reliable with a fenced yard versus walking. She does not enjoy being crated or confined away from her people, but we are working with her on that also. If you think that London may be the girl for you, submit your adoption application for her today. London is being fostered in Rochester.

We recently received a call from one of the vets that we regularly work with about a beagle who needed surgery and the owner could not afford the surgery, so they decided to put him down instead! CRAZY!
So, we decided to help this beagle boy out. He was healthy and deserved to live... we could not have bared the thought of his being put down because he is an expense. So, we picked him up and found him to be one of the most lovable beagles we have ever met! He does not have any of the "behaviors" that other beagles have such as howling. He is very quiet and laid back and mellow! The perfect companion for anyone. He is underweight because of a disease that is commonly found in dogs called EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency, which is the equivalent of lactose intolerance in humans as far as a lack of enzyme goes. This will require special food for his life (such as a Science Diet mild type of food), but nothing that is too costly. Cody is a fine fine dog and if you are interested in him, please be sure to apply because he is such a love that it is certain that he will not be around for long!

We think PJ is one of the cutest little guys we have ever seen! He is a rat terrier/Papillon mix and very tiny and petite. He was found as a stray and managed to get into a high kill shelter where he was not claimed by an owner. Luckily he came to rescue rather than meeting an untimely end.
PJ loves dogs, kids and anyone else he has met. He is full of energy and loves to run around and play. We estimate he is about 5 years old, but he acts much younger. PJ is house and crate trained and has been a joy to have in his foster home. If you want to be the one to give PJ his lucky new home, then please apply today! PJ is located in Rochester.
Update 1/27/09: PJ is being returned to rescue because the family is not able to give him the attention he needs any longer. Please take a look at PJ because he is a lovable guy who you are sure to fall in love with!

Hi I am Chang and Toi is my sister! We are both 2 years old and have never been apart however my foster mom noticed with some time together I have not been eating to good I am underweight and need to gain 1 1/2lbs! Thats because my sister won't allow me to eat in piece! ! I make a very good lap warmer and would love nothing more then to cuddle with you all day!! We are both very calm and just like to be around someone. I really like being held and loved on. I would make great companion for anyone who needs our company!! Toi is just like me but is Alpha and more dominate, I need a fenced in yard however, not because we would try and run away but because we NEVER wore a collar and have never been on a leash. Toi and I now have pretty new collar/harness and soon will practice leash walking but until I get the hang of it I need to use the potty in a secure place. I am also paper trained in case we are left alone too long and need a place to go. If you are lonely and would like a lovable friend to keep you company I would be the ones to brighten your day.

Meet Cooper! This cutie is ready to go to his forever home and we are happy to help him get there. He is four years old and weighs about 24 pounds. Cooper is very playful, and LOVES toys...any kind of toys. He is also very cuddly and loves to snuggle up on your lap and get scratched. He is house trained and is good with other dogs and children . He loves to run like a mad man in the backyard. He is not all that comfortable on the leash, but we are working with him on that. He would do much better with a securely fenced in yard versus having to leash walk for exercise and potty breaks. Cooper is excellent in the crate. Very quiet and content to be in there even if someone is home.
Wow! Cooper sounds like a perfect dog, doesn't he?? If you think so, submit your online application for Cooper today! Cooper is being fostered in Rochester.
Cooper is being returned to rescue because his family believes him to be depressed in their home without the companionship of another dog. He is really a sweet boy and we are hoping to find him another loving family.

Jonas is 3 years old and was found as a stray in South Carolina. He tested positive for heartworm and was going to be put to sleep, but Jonas was lucky and was saved by a Michigan rescue group who treated Jonas and asked Buffalo Pugs to help with placing him.
Jonas is a very sweet, loving dog. He loves to play with other dogs and children,
well behaved. Pictures do not come close to how cute this boy is! He has the softest fur with the prettiest colors. He has the looks of a Norfolk Terrier but the size & coat of a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. Whatever he is mixed with, Jonas came with a long tail & a happy, loyal, energetic Terrier disposition.
Jonas soaks up attention like a sponge. He loves playing with other dogs or his toys, he likes the cats, and being in his favorite place - sitting on your lap. He also enjoys watching the world go by out the window.
Jonas will need a home with a stockade fence since he will get over a chain link fence to check on the neighbors. Or a home with someone committed to walking him on a leash (which he is very good at.) Jonas does not have any sense of the dangers of a road.
He loves to be brushed and is very cooperative with being cared for.
We cannot express how sweet this boy is and how he will make your family complete. Jonas would love to be the only dog for the undivided attention he so desires & deserves.
Jonas is micro-chipped, neutered & up-to-date on his vetting.
Jonas is being fostered in Buffalo.

This sweet, senior pug gal is Katie. She spent her whole life with one family, only to be dropped off at the shelter when they moved. We knew we had to help this girl find her forever home and family. This girl may be 9 years old, but she still has the heart and playfulness of a puppy. She just needs a family to share her love of life with.
Katie came to us with a urinary tract infection and bad skin condition. She has been treated for her infection and her skin is doing much, much better. She will still require regular medicated baths and a good diet, but that is a small price to pay to have such a wonderful, loving, lifelong companion. Katie is completely house trained and is great in the house. She is a little possessive of her people so would love to be in a home where she doesn't have to share too much of the loving. She would do best in an adult only home, or one with older kids. She loves the teenagers in her foster home and of course, her foster mom. Hi, My name is Flash! I was found in a house alone and afraid. My owner was sick and ended up in the hospital and I was left for 4 days. I was then turned over to the SPCA where they evaluated me and found out that I didn't like my toys or food taken away from me. So they called Buffalo Pugs to help me out.
I am a very sweet and loving boy. I love attention and I LOVE my treats so I am going to need a diet. I am about 18 pounds over weight but losing it gradually with the help of my foster mom. I am very quiet and very well behaved and I hardly make a sound. Sometimes you would never know I am there. I am also housebroken and will bark and get excited when I need to go out. I am not too bad about my food you can hand feed me and I am good about getting treats I just would not like to be interrupted while I am eating. So far my foster mom has had no trouble at all about this. I am, however, better off as an only dog... I don't mind being around them but I don't like to share anything with another dog. If you are willing to provide Flash the perfect retirement home he deserves, please submit your application for him today. Flash is being fostered in Buffalo.
Update 05/12/09 It has been a few weeks and Flash is doing very good on his diet. He has lost 10 lbs so far and now weighs 55 lbs. His foster mom says he is the easiest foster she has ever had! He loves to be outside and will go charging at the door the minute he sees his leash! Flash loves to go on walks and he even loves to hang out in the barn. For a beagle, he is very quiet, does not howl or carry on about anything. However, once he is in for a rest he does not like to be disturbed and will let you know if you bother him, but he is very easy to handle just show him his leash and he is off to the door again! He only has about 8 to 10 more lbs to go and will be feeling like a pup again in no time!

Hi everyone! I'm Sookie! I'm a Shih-Tzu mix and about 1 year old. I was a stray on the streets for a good part of my puppy-hood. I didn't like it very much, and I'm sure happy to be in a nice warm house! I am a little shy when you first meet me, but it doesn't take more than a few kind words and some nice ear scratches to make me your best friend forever. My favorite place to be is in somebody's lap. Anytime I'm lucky enough to find a warm lap to lay in you can be sure I'll be there all night.
I need to put on a few pounds, and the shelter had to shave half my hair off because it was all tangled up when they took me in. But my foster mom says I'm beautiful inside and out. I'm really shy around new dogs. I'm not mean to them, they just scare me a little. I met some cats a few days ago but I really didn't notice them. I haven't spent any time with small children, but I think they might scare me too. I'm working very hard on my house manners. It's pretty cold outside for a skinny little half-naked girl like me - but my foster mom has discovered that when its too cold for my little feet, a wee-wee pad suits me just fine. I sleep all night in a cozy little dog bed that is just my size. This indoor life is just what I have been looking for. Will you give me the happily ever after I've always wanted? If so, please hurry and send in your adoption application for me today! Sookie is being fostered in Rochester.

Hi, I am Timmy and I am a sweet, 9 month old Pug / Miniature Pinscher mix (sometimes called a Muggin) who found myself lost on the streets of Kentucky. I am very well behaved for only being 9 months old and will make a great companion. I'm so grateful to be safe and sound, but I sure would like to have a permanent home and family of my own. Louie was the only boy of 7 pugs that came to us from a horrible puppymill rescue. You can see from his pictures that he is a very handsome boy and we are thrilled that we could get him out of that horrible situation.
Louie was adopted, but sadly had to be returned to rescue. He's had a tough time with his family, who lost a family member, and Louie now needs to be rehomed. He is still shy of people until he has a little time to warm up and relax, but he is doing better with that and now loves to give and receive love and affection. Louie would do best in a home with at least one other canine companion. As is typical with puppymill dogs, he bonds very quickly with other dogs and relies on them for companionship. Louie knew nothing about life in a house and every day is a new experience for him. He's learning and adjusting a little more each day. If you would like to help Louie to continue his education and learn how great it is to be a loved and pampered family member, please submit your online application for him today. Louie is being fostered in Rochester.

Jade is an owner surrender, the older woman came upon Jade quite by accident, Jade and her litter mates where witnessed being THROWN out a car window! Poor Jade some how ended up under the womans Mobile home and the rest was history!!! Now poor Jade was forced to leave the only person who ever loved her and took care of her! Jades mom had no choice but to leave Jade behind because she had to move into a nursing home :-(
Jade is a very adorable sweet Pug/Boston mix, sometimes called a Bug! She is very sweet, loves to play and loves to have lots of attention! Her mom must have spoiled her!!! Jade is very social and outgoing.. She is still very young and would love to play with a dog similar in age to keep up with her or someone willing to give her a lot their time and attention! She still needs work on her potty manners but is doing a really good job. She is also crate trained!
Jade is being fostered in Buffalo.
