We are often asked why we do what it is we do and we thought that we would share with everyone one of the biggest reasons... the life of the shelter dog. The Spot Society in Atlanta, GA has put together a very touching tribute to Albert, just one of the millions of shelter dogs in America that suffer the same fate.

Hi! I'm Diesel and I am inviting everyone to my 1 year birthday party on 7/11! The only real present I am looking for is my forever family!! I have been surrendered by my owners because I was too much puppy and they worked long hours so we really didn't get enough time to enjoy each other. I am a bundle of energy according to my foster mom but let me tell you a little bit about myself: I am a healthy (all up to date on my vet care), neutered, 10 lb. Pug/Pomeranian mix and very cute according to everyone who meets me! I am very social and like everyone I meet, hence I am working on my greeting manners, like not jumping on people even though I am excited to meet you. I am house trained, I enjoy dog chews, playing with toys and working on my fetch. I enjoy nice long walks on a leash with my harness and I promise not to pull, but what I really like is a fenced in yard or puppy park so I can run around and get out my puppy energy! I get along with cats (played with 2 in my recent home) and I like to play with dogs that are my size.
It would be nice to join a family who has a young pup to play with, to help keep me company when my owners have to leave the house, since crates and I are not best friends (I prefer to be in an enclosed open area or with you). I know some basic obedience manners (my foster mom is big on having me sit to get a treat) and I come when you call my name. I am not uncomfortable with little kids, but because I'm still working on not jumping when I get excited to see you, I would like my forever home to have children over 5 so I don't knock them down in my excitement to give lots of kisses! I will warn you when I hear unknown noises (I am a good watch dog!) and initially when I am left alone or in my crate (I miss you), so an apartment setting may not be appropriate for me. If you are interested in being my forever family birthday gift, please submit your online application for me and my foster Mom will be glad to talk with you about what a great dog I am! Diesel is being fostered in Rochester.

Munson was surrendered because his family had to move and was unable to take poor Munson with them.
Munson is a very sweet boy. He needs a little while to warm up to you, but once he knows you he is the sweetest little boy. He loves to cuddle and listens very well. He would benefit from some basic training and we are helping him to learn good manners and he is doing very well. He wants to please, but we think that he just never really had any guidance. He was raised with young children, but we recommend he be placed only with older kids while he learns the social graces. He is doing great with his house and crate training. Munson also had his Cherry Eye (see his photos) fixed on Friday and this is healing up very nicely. He is ready now to find that one forever home that he rightfully deserves. If you think that you would like to be considered for his adoption, please submit your online adoption application for Munson today. Munson is being fostered in Buffalo.

Coco is a totally sweet, 8 month old Rotti girl. She is housebroken, and has lived with kids and is good with them, although older kids would be better because she may knock them over. Coco is a big girl at about 80 pounds now.
Coco is very eager to please, and will be a great, loyal family companion. She is submissive with new dogs until she gets to know them. Coco does pull on the leash so a fenced in yard would be good along with some basic obedience training. Coco loves to play with toys and will be a great addition to an active family that needs some fun. If you want to be considered to adopt Coco, submit an online adoption application for her today! Hi, I'm Rupert and I'm waiting for you to come and take me home! I promise to do my best to be a good boy and I'll make you very glad to come home to my happy face every day!
Rupert is a 6 month old wonderful boy who came from a neglectful situation. Rupert is a little dominant and would do well with older kids. He's great with other dogs and is ok with cats. He is crate trained and very good about keeping it clean. Like all puppies, Rupert would benefit from some basic obedience training and plenty of exercise to help him work off all his puppy energy. He is very sweet and we know he is going to be a wonderful family companion. Rupert is being fostered in Rochester.

Ruby came in with her sister Amber. They are both gorgeous little gems and we are looking for the perfect homes for them.
Ruby is very outgoing and good with older children 6 +, who are old enough to understand that she does not like when they squeeze her and try and pick her up. She is too small to be dropped. Children are taken away by her fluffy fur and think she is a teddy bear! With her beautiful, poofy coat you cannot tell that Ruby is seriously under weight, but when you touch her you can feel every bone in her body. We are working hard to help her put on the weight she needs. Ruby is as sweet as they come. Extremely lovable and loves nothing more then to be snuggled. Ruby is being fostered in Buffalo.

Adam is not your typical mill dog as he is very outgoing, loves people and is very playful. He is a happy pug and certainly glad to be freed from his cage. He is crate trained and will use a puppy pad if left for him but like all the mill survivors, he will need work with his house training. He loves to play with other dogs, great with kids and is very social! If you would like to be the lucky one to take this sweetheart home, submit your adoption application quick! Hi, my name is Inky because I am a dinky little boy. I also came from the puppy mill with my other friends. I sure am happy Buffalo Pugs came and bailed us out and can't wait to find my new home!
Inky is an adorable 5 lb., 6 year old little guy. He is very friendly but would not be recommended with small children. Inky does not like to be teased or handled too much from the little ones. He is devoted to his care taker and will follow you around all day and will even wait for you if you go into a room without him. Inky loves to sit on your lap and snuggle. Inky was emaciated when he came to us and should add a couple more pounds. We are working on getting some meat on his little bones now that his rotted teeth are removed and he can eat pain free. Oh and by the way his breath is much nicer as well!! Inky would do best as an only dog or in a home with a dog more his size and age. Inky is being fostered in Buffalo.

We're happy to introduce Hoss! He and 8 other lucky dogs have recently been sprung from Ohio puppymills and we are determined to bring them all the love and joy that they deserve and end the miserable existence they have known all their lives.
Hi, I was named Hoss and was the first to be named after the Cartwright brothers. The name really seemed to fit me. This is of course if you are old enough to remember the TV show. I am one of the not so lucky guys. I had to have 16 rotted teeth removed and I am petrified of everyone I meet. I hide and cower, but even as scared as I am I still try and peek out from hiding. I'm getting a little more comfortable in my foster home and will even walk near my foster mom, as long as she doesn't move. Right now I do not know who I am or how I will become. I will need time and patience! I am hoping to find someone willing to give me all the love they can and help me learn how sweet life can be, and that there is more to life than a cage and scary people. Could that be you? I am being fostered in Buffalo.

Cody came to us with Blue and Star. They sadly had to be rehomed when one of their people passed away and the other had to move. Poor Cody came with a very bad skin condition and is just now looking and feeling good again and ready to go home!
Cody is very sweet, good with other dogs his size and loves everyone. Because he is so small and fragile, it would be best for him to be in an adult home where he won't get stepped on. He loves attention and snuggling up. He will need to stay on a holistic diet to keep his skin and coat healthy, but with good food, he has done great. If you want a great little snuggle-buddy, please submit your online application for Cody today. Cody is being fostered in Rochester.

Hi, my name is Gizzy! Me and 8 other lucky Buffalo Pug rescues have been imprisoned in puppy mills across Ohio for all our lives. We're so happy that Buffalo Pug and Small Breed Rescue came and bailed us out! Some of us needed medical attention and some are a bit scared and don't know what to make of our new lives. We lived in cages our entire lives, but now that we are free we are finding out how wonderful being a doggie really can be.
I am a very sweet and happy little guy. I love my toys and love to romp and play with other dogs my size. I am just a little nervous around new people, but that wears off fast. I am starting to learn all new things and with time will figure out what life is all about. I will need some help with my housebreaking but I am willing to learn. I am now fully vetted and have been neutered so I do not ever have to worry about a puppy mill again. Please submit an adoption application for me today so I can come home with you soon! I am being fostered in Buffalo.

Meet Gus! He and his brother Bud recently came from an overcrowded death row shelter in Kentucky. They were surrendered by their owners and we committed to helping them find their forever homes.
Gus is a very smart and energetic dog who will need a securely fenced yard. He loves to run, so would be great with a high energy family. Gus is house trained and will let you know when he needs to go out. He gets along fine with other dogs except that he prefers to eat alone! He does not like other dogs to help themselves to his food while he is eating. However, he really does love to hang out with dogs and would love a friend to play with. Gus is really a great dog and he also is very good with children! He might be nervous at first but does come around once he is settled, he just needs someone to give him the time. Might that be you? Kane, like his brothers, is a very happy, playful, energetic boy. None of these boys act their age and have lots of puppy-like traits. They would all do well in a busy family that will give them lots of play time and structure. Kane is very sweet and gets along with everyone in his foster home. Hi my name is Zeus. Don’t let the white look to my muzzle fool you, I am only a 5 yr. old Papillion mix. I came all the way from a shelter in Kentucky, looking for my forever family. I don’t remember much about my life in Kentucky or how I became blind in my left eye but it has not slowed me down any! I have been eating well, put on some weight and have improved the shine in my coat! I can be shy at first but once I get to know you, I will be your constant companion, just ask my foster mom! When I get to meet new friends it is easier for me to relax if everything is presented to my right side. I like to play with dogs that are my size, about 15 lbs, especially the ladies, (I compete too much over territory marking with the guys)! It would be nice to join a family who has a young lady dog to help keep me company when my owners have to leave the house for a while or top dog would be cool too. I walk pretty good on a leash with a harness, still getting the hang of how to play fetch or what to do with toys, and some basic obedience manner (my foster mom is big on having me sit to get a treat). I am doing well with going outside to use the “rest roomâ€, I am not a big crate fan, (I prefer to be in an enclosed open area or with you) and I love to run around in the fenced in yard with the other dogs that are here at my foster home. Due to my blindness I am uncomfortable with little kids because they move so quickly so I would like my forever home have children over 10 and greet me on my right so I can see who is coming to visit me.
I will warn you when I hear unknown noises (I am a good watch dog!) and initially when I am left alone or in my crate ( I miss you), so an apartment setting may not be appropriate for me. If you are interested in being my forever family, please submit your online application for me and my foster Mom will be glad to talk with you about what a great dog I am! I'm being fostered in Rochester with a great family, but I really want my own.

Hi, My name is Flash! I was found in a house alone and afraid. My owner was sick and ended up in the hospital and I was left for 4 days. I was then turned over to the SPCA where they evaluated me and found out that I didn't like my toys or food taken away from me. So they called Buffalo Pugs to help me out.
I am a very sweet and loving boy. I love attention and I LOVE my treats so I am going to need a diet. I am about 18 pounds over weight but losing it gradually with the help of my foster mom. I am very quiet and very well behaved and I hardly make a sound. Sometimes you would never know I am there. I am also housebroken and will bark and get excited when I need to go out. I am not too bad about my food you can hand feed me and I am good about getting treats I just would not like to be interrupted while I am eating. So far my foster mom has had no trouble at all about this. I am, however, better off as an only dog... I don't mind being around them but I don't like to share anything with another dog. If you are willing to provide Flash the perfect retirement home he deserves, please submit your application for him today. Flash is being fostered in Buffalo.
Update 05/12/09 It has been a few weeks and Flash is doing very good on his diet. He has lost 10 lbs so far and now weighs 55 lbs. His foster mom says he is the easiest foster she has ever had! He loves to be outside and will go charging at the door the minute he sees his leash! Flash loves to go on walks and he even loves to hang out in the barn. For a beagle, he is very quiet, does not howl or carry on about anything. However, once he is in for a rest he does not like to be disturbed and will let you know if you bother him, but he is very easy to handle just show him his leash and he is off to the door again! He only has about 8 to 10 more lbs to go and will be feeling like a pup again in no time!

We have sadly had to move our sweet Ollie to the "Medical Hold" area of our site. Ollie was having difficulty and pain walking so we brought him to our vet to evaluate him. Poor Ollie has severe luxating patella in both of his back legs and will require surgery to correct them immediately. We are in DIRE NEED of financial help to get Ollie's surgery done and get him on the road to living pain free. We are appealing to all our wonderful supporters to help us help Ollie!! Please Donate Today for Ollie! Every dollar counts!
We were happy to help this adorable Boston boy to get here from the overcrowded Kentucky shelter that he sadly found himself in. He is such a sweet boy, we couldn't see him left there frightened and alone.
Our vet thinks that Ollie is about 3 or 4 years old and he weighs only 16 lbs.
Ollie is a very loving little guy and just wants a home and family to call his own. He is a little shy at first, but loves dogs, cats and people. This sweet, senior pug gal is Katie. She spent her whole life with one family, only to be dropped off at the shelter when they moved. We knew we had to help this girl find her forever home and family. This girl may be 9 years old, but she still has the heart and playfulness of a puppy. She just needs a family to share her love of life with.
Katie came to us with a urinary tract infection and bad skin condition. She has been treated for her infection and her skin is doing much, much better. She will still require regular medicated baths and a good diet, but that is a small price to pay to have such a wonderful, loving, lifelong companion. Katie is completely house trained and is great in the house. She is a little possessive of her people so would love to be in a home where she doesn't have to share too much of the loving. She would do best in an adult only home, or one with older kids. She loves the teenagers in her foster home and of course, her foster mom. Hola New Yorkers, me llamo is Luna! Sorry for the spanish, but I'm just getting used to english. My sister, Wendy, and I were recently flown here from our native home of Puerto Rico. We are part of the program called "Save a Sato" and are thrilled to be in a home and not scrounging through trash on the streets and fighting day and night to stay alive. It was a horribly hard life and even though we are only in a temporary foster home, it sure is great to have a warm, dry bed to sleep in and two good, healthy meals a day. Dogs here sure have a great life!! Would you be willing to give us a permanent home so we never have to worry again? My sister and I would love to stay together, but if that's not possible, it would be nice for us to have other canine companions because that is what we are used to. We promise to try very hard to make you proud and happy. We're really good girls and just need a chance to prove it!
Luna and Wendy are both very sweet girls with lots of love and energy to share. They are very bonded, so it would be great to keep them together, but we know that might not be possible. If they can't be adopted together, it would be best for them to have at least one other canine companion. They are very active, energetic girls and should be in an active home where they will get the exercise and activity level they need. We were thrilled to be able to help the Save A Sato folks to get these girls out of harms way and into loving, forever homes. The conditions that these dogs live in is horrible and no dog should have to live the way they do. You can read more about it here: http://www.saveasato.org/. We know that there are good hearted, loving families here willing to help these girls to never have to struggle to survive again. Poor Benjamin, also known as Benji, was left behind when his original owner went to jail. He was only 6 months old. A friend took him in but her other much larger dog did not like other dogs and went after Benjamin, so we were happy to take him and promise to find him a wonderful, forever home!
Benjamin loves everyone and everything. He is fine around kids, loves to play and to be around people. He will sit by you and on your lap all day if you let him. He prefers to be with you if you are home, but is ok in his crate when you have to go out. He seems to love going for walks and loves to play in the yard as long as he is with his people or another dog to play with. He is not fully housebroken, but we are working on that with him and he is picking it up quickly. Benjamin will make some lucky family very happy. If you want that family to be yours, don't hesitate, submit your online application quick! Benjamin is being fostered in Buffalo.

We are proud and happy to introduce the beagle/basset mix brothers, Kane, Abel and Jube (pronounced hoo-bee). These sweethearts are all working hard to learn house manners in their foster homes and find out what home life is all about. Abel and Jube are being fostered together and this is what their foster mom has to say about them:
They're both active, love a fenced yard but are ok on a leash right now and would need a little training. Abel has learned to sit (most of the time) in 4 days so he is a quick learner. Jube is a little wilder and a little less trusting but is coming around. They've been less apprehensive everyday, they're very different dogs from when they arrived on Sat. so I think they'll be quick to acclimate to their forever home. Jube also likes to walk around the house and steal everything he can find (toys, shoes, etc.) and stockpile them which is very entertaining to watch. They're both eager to please and would make great companions, they just need the time to be able to trust 100% and anyone would be lucky to adopt them. If you are interested in being considered to adopt any of the beagle/basset boys, please submit your online application for them today. Jube is being fostered in Rochester.

Augie was the only boy of the latest Lucky 7 pugs that came to us from a puppymill rescue. You can see from his pictures that he is a very handsome boy and we are thrilled that we could get him out of that horrible situation.
Poor Augie must have never been handled with love and tenderness. He is very leery of people and will take some time to warm up and relax. He's doing better in his foster home in just a week and we know that once he is in his own home with his own family, he will come along quickly. Augie would do best in a home with at least one other canine companion. As is typical with puppymill dogs, he bonds very quickly with other dogs and relies on them for companionship. Augie knew nothing about life in a house and every day is a new experience for him. He's learning and adjusting a little more each day. If you would like to help Augie to continue his education and learn how great it is to be a loved and pampered family member, please submit your online application for him today. Augie is being fostered in Rochester.

Riley and his sister Zoe (fka Yuna) were adopted last year when they were babies. Meet Teddy the Terrific!! This little guy is full of fun and just loves life. He originally came from a shelter in Kentucky and was adopted by a family that just didn't have the time for him. We gladly took him in to help him find his real forever home and family. Somewhere along the way in Teddy's short little life, he lost part of his right ear, but we think it just gives him character!!
Teddy loves walks and car rides and would do well with an active family that will keep him busy, entertained and included in the family activities. He is completely house trained and a very loyal, devoted boy. He gets along great with other dogs and all people, and has pretty much ignored the cat in his foster home, so we think he will be a wonderful companion for any active family. If you are looking for the fun that Teddy is full of, please submit your application for him today! Teddy is being fostered in Buffalo.
